Cutting system spare parts for combine harvesters
Cutterbar spare parts:
How to switch your combine harvester to the Schumacher system
A clean cut is the basic prerequisite for a full grain tank and an efficient harvest. If your combine harvester loses power or the cutting pattern becomes unclean, this is often due to worn mowing system components in the cutterbar.
In this article, we’ll show you which spare parts are essential for your cutting unit and how GROUP SCHUMACHER’s modular system ensures you’re perfectly equipped for any harvesting conditions.
When is a complete CUTTING SYSTEM KIT the right choice?
A cutting system kit is the most efficient solution if you want to switch your existing cutting unit from a standard cutting system to the modern and innovative SCHUMACHER standard.

Schumacher Kit
3 knife guide options:
STANDARD
– classical wear plates for solid performance
COMFORT
– with additional top roller for smooth knife movement
PREMIUM
– with top- and bottom roller for minimal friction and highest throughput
All kits are designed to be specifically tailored to the respective cutting unit type and are ready for immediate use.
You can find an overview of the available kits here in our cutting system kit catalog.
COMPONENTS
Which spare parts optimize your cutting system?
While the complete kit is designed for converting to the Schumacher system, the spare parts kit allows you to address specific wear and tear issues.

GUARD
The closed design of our guard enables a unique alternating cut of the sections. It also ensures maximum stability and prevents bending under heavy loads. Thanks to the double-sided bolting, the guards are rock-solid.
The key advantage is the double cutting edges: They guide the section precisely and ensure exact section guidance, which noticeably reduces resistance and wear.

KNIFE SECTION
Our sections are fully hardened and galvanized, making them extremely resistant to wear and corrosion. The alternating-cut configuration (cutting at the top and bottom) ensures that the section runs much more smoothly and with less vibration. Keyword: maintenance-free.
Thanks to the special set screws, individual sections can be replaced quickly and safely as needed.

SECTIONAL KNIFE
Our sectional knife design solves the logistical challenge posed by long knives by using convenient 2.60-meter sections. If you need new sections quickly, this is a huge advantage: these sections can be shipped via overnight express or transported in a standard car. Once on site, they can be easily and quickly installed using the knife connection kits.
The screws used, featuring an active Precote coating, ensure a secure connection.

WEAR PLATE
Our wear plates form the backbone of the cut, as they support the back of the section and hold it precisely in position. Without this support, the section would tilt in the cutting gap, which would significantly increase wear.
At Schumacher, these plates can be easily replaced individually once the 90° edge wears down.

GUIDE ROLLER
Our ball-bearing guide roller minimizes friction in the cutting unit. The rotating plates ensure low-friction guidance of the knife back and the knife section.
The result is extremely smooth knife movement and significantly less vibration in the cutting unit and in the cab.
MAINTENANCE
How do you know if you need spare parts for your cutting system?
Use this short checklist for your maintenance:

GUARDS
A new guard has a cutting gap of 3.8 – 4.2 mm.
Exceeding 5,4 mm, the knife “floats” and doesn’t cut properly.
Measure cut gap

KNIFE HEADS
The teeth are pointed or
the gaps have worn away; the crop is impaled rather than cut.
Visual inspection (compare with new part)

WEAR PLATES
If the angle is flattened, the section loses its support and wobbles back and forth in the cutting gap.
Check 90° angle

TIP
Using the MultiTool included in the kit you can check the cutting gap of your guards in no time at all.
Which SPARE PART fits your header perfectly?
Every header (e.g., from Claas, John Deere, or Case) has different technical specifications. Our cutting system kits take all key factors into account to ensure that your system fits your header perfectly and operates smoothly.
We have compiled an overview of all available cutting system kits for you in our brochure. Simply look up your combine harvester cutting unit in the list to find the correct part number for the spare parts.
